Snow in Georgia-Rachel Holbert Jones

Image
This is Georgia.....and my Panther Truck.....it has been raining/snowing for almost 5 hours now. My family/friends all laughed & said you're only going to get a few flurries. I was at the Pilot (it was full of power trucks, etc. gearing up for the weather) and the guy next to me (he's a regular, lives with his wife in their SUV, had to move bc they were putting orange cones in many of the parking spots) moves to the opposite side of me & I could barely open my door w/o banging his truck/my door & I wanted coffee at my favorite Marathon (this family owned place makes such good coffee I don't even need sweetener). After leaving the Marathon I realize maybe this wasn't such a good idea but I went to a FlyingJ truck stop only slightly farther. They have a bigger parking lot & I'd slept at the Pilot 3 nights in a row. I'm not going anywhere today. On a side note: I was once stuck at a FlyingJ truck stop in Wyoming bc it snowed 5-6 inches every night....

Shared to FB Groups-Rachel Holbert Jones

I shared this on FB groups and for some reason administrators turned off commenting. No idea why. So I'm sharing it here. I'm full-time (mostly). I inherited vacant land & thought I could use it (I can't). Requires a 2000 sq ft house build, no campers, tiny homes, tents, etc. I currently rent a house with my ex and 2 roommates (10mos left on lease). We're having alot of issues with 1 roommate. I was hoping to find someone to assume my portion of the lease & get out of this obligation & live on the land. That's not coming to fruition. The only thing that has come together is my uncle (I work for him) has given me another vehicle for work. It's a 2001 Ford Taurus, backseats don't fold down so same front seat sleeping setup I have in my car. The age irks me a bit but I'm good. BC my car has been wrecked, the insurance co insisted on an inspection before giving me comprehensive/collision coverage. Have never heard of them sending someone to the h...

Lonely, Elderly Woman-Rachel Holbert Jones-Lookout Mountain, Tennessee

Image
I shared this on my Facebook page and thought I'd share it here. Tonight, we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel. As we were almost finished, we noticed an elderly woman sitting all alone, drinking a milk and waiting for her meal. A million thoughts went through my mind. She looked so very lonely…Is she widowed? Where is her family? Why is she at a restaurant at almost 8 p.m. (which is stereotypically like midnight in old people time). Also seated next to us were three big, burly, middle-aged, blue collar, hardworking, hungry men. I asked Tom if we should buy her dinner or if we should go sit with her...then one of our boys did/said something which momentarily distracted us but when we looked back up, these big burly guys were moving the frail elderly woman to their table. We continued to watch them interact. The woman was smiling from ear to ear, her face all lit up and she was just a-talking like she hadn’t talked to another human in a very long time. I seriously was choked up, as...

13 Months Into Full Time Homelessness (Not By Choice)-Currently in Georgia~Rachel Holbert Jones

Image
I've been up since 2:30-3 AM this morning. I had upset stomach and heartburn real bad. I'm not having to take pepcid every day anymore but enough so I avoid foods that cause it but I have no idea what caused it early this morning. I had tuna yesterday and peanut butter crackers, applesauce and half a banana nut muffin last night. Sometimes peanut butter bothers me. My stomach has been bothering me a little bit today. I stopped at this tiny library to make a couple of posts because I haven't in such a long time. The full post is here:  https://rachelholbertjonespage.wordpress.com/2024/12/16/13-months-into-homelessness-in-wnc-currently-in-georgiarachel-holbert-jones/ #lookoutmountain #tennessee #georgia Until next time……..My story-page……..A Brand New Update:  Rehabbing Malachi’s boat on Lake Keowee did not come to fruition. Now I’m headed to Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. It sits on the border with its sister city in Georgia. I plan to rehab another three houses. I just got fin...

Headed To Texas In My (New To Me) Ford Flex For Some Cattle Adventures-Rachel Holbert Jones

Image
Headed to Texas to move cattle from one ranch to another. Currently at Aunt's in Montgomery, Alabama until after labor day!!!!!! Until next time……..My story-page……..A Brand New Update:  Rehabbing Malachi’s boat on Lake Keowee did not come to fruition. Now I’m headed to Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. It sits on the border with its sister city in Georgia. I plan to rehab another three houses. I just got finished rehabbing three houses in North Carolina. The Lookout Mountain houses are going to be big jobs for very old houses. Hopefully, I will be there awhile. I will also be there during winter. I don’t know when I’ll go back to West Virginia to care for my aunt. I also don’t know if we’ll ever get her to Oklahoma. My new nighttime love is Audible. I am excited to share some of the books I listen to. I will share them if I get time between work. I’ve added Let’s Read to my podcast list. I’ve recently added weight lifting back to my regiment. The good news is that I will still be near a...

Things to do While Traveling, Overlanding & Road Tripping~Rachel Holbert Jones, Sunset SC

Image
Overlanding is about the journey not the destination so it makes sense that you will want to find lots of interesting things to see and do along the way. This post parlayed from a post I did on my other blog having to do with offroading. That post is  Someone Took a Jeep up Suicide Road  and as always I started with the post but quickly spiraled into something else entirely. The man in the Jeep was actually headed up to a radio tower to work on it. I tend to lose concentration and let my mind take over and go to other places unrelated to the post at hand. From this post came new ideas for things to do, things I like to do. And there's plenty you can do while traveling, overlanding and road tripping. Along the way you can camp, boondock, stay at a motel although to get the most out of your travels it's probably better to camp but if you don't like to camp or boondock then a motel it is. You can stay at a campground and along the way there's so much to see and do. Everyon...

It's Not Uncommon To Encounter Trolls On YouTube~Rachel Holbert Jones, Sunset SC #Ravenblackheartllc

I've been stuck in a rest area for two days with the Norovirus (stomach flu) once again and I shared a video about it. I've been sharing videos about my travels for over two years now and when we became homeless and starting living in our cars full time in November 2023, I started vlogging and blogging about it. Although the blogging end of it came much later than the videos. Over the past few months, there has been a troll who posts and I probably should just block him but his comments, while rude, are not to the extent, that I would block him. Not yet anyway. And I am a big proponent of free speech therefore can't see myself blocking someone merely because I don't like the comments. There are others that have made some pretty rude, judgmental remarks but they aren't trolls. But this one guy comments on every video and trolls. This is not uncommon. Many people have nothing better to do than sit at home or at their workplace on their boss's time commenting on s...
